Spicy hot chocolate

spicy hot chocolate
Because I cannot resist good food, and I have a sweet tooth, people often think I am a big chocolate lover. Don’t be mistaken, it is not the case. I would have a much harder time resisting a hot apple pie than a chocolate cake. But, just as Johnny Depp in “Le Chocolat”, there is one thing I cannot resist: a warm, rich, hot chocolate!
To me a hot chocolate has to be made with real dessert chocolate bar, with high cocoa content. I am not a fan of the ones made with powder cocoa..but as a result, this drink almost makes a full breakfast: Don’t bite off more than you can chew!

Ingredients (2 big bowls):

choco chaud11/2L semi-skimmed milk

100g dark chocolate (min. 70% cocoa)

1 cinnamon stick

3 cloves

2 tbsp vanilla sugar

Instructions:

choco chaud21. Break the chocolate into big chunks, add about 10ml of milk, and let it melt on low fire, stirring constantly so that the chocolate does not burn

2. When the mixture looks nice and creamy, slowly add the rest of the milk. Keep stirring. This way you ensure that the milk and chocolate are perfectly mixed.

3. Once you have added all the milk, add the cinnamon stick, the cloves and the vanilla sugar. Let them simmer in the hot chocolate for about 5-10min on very low fire. Stay close and check on the preparation to avoid the milk boiling.

4. Remowe the cinnamon stick and the cloves before serving.

Enjoy for breaksfast on a lazy Sunday, or in the afternoon when coming back from a walk on a rainy day! Completely decadent when you dip a big slice of bread in it!
